Auditions for Phoenix Junior Strings

We're excited to look forward to our launch of the Summer 2018 season of Phoenix Junior Strings with ongoing placement auditions -- call or e-mail for an audition appointment.

Violin, viola, cello and bass players from beginning to advanced levels are encouraged to audition for the summer program (session dates & times to be determined).

Musicians ages 8-18 with one year of instrument study are welcome to audition with a prepared short unaccompanied solo and memorized scales, and will be asked to sight-read. The non-refundable audition fee is $20.

Welcome to Phoenix Junior Strings

Phoenix Junior Strings is a chamber orchestra which teaches ensemble technique and builds musician strength in sectional group and chamber orchestra settings in central Phoenix, Arizona.

Students work with mentor musicians and specialized instructors during sectional practice, and collaborate with each other in chamber orchestra, learning to communicate and -- uniquely -- perform as a group without a conductor.

PJS Music Director Patty Waxman earned music degrees from the Cleveland Institute of Music and Michigan State University. She's performed with groups including West Valley Symphony, Arizona Broadway Theatre, Musica Nova Orchestra and Phoenix Opera Orchestra. Waxman maintains a private studio and has taught at Rosie's House in Phoenix. Additional coaches include violinist Katrina Becker and violinist/violist Cynthia Dubrow.

The Summer 2018 season of Phoenix Junior Strings takes place from June 11-21, with the final concert on June 22! Details about the fun:

• Begins with your placement audition -- call or e-mail to schedule an appointment
• Sessions are scheduled on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays for two weeks (six sessions total), culminating in the final concert
• Fee: $20 per session per student
